Predictions: NHK Trophy 2018

rika kihira

Like last week, this week’s predictions will be names on a page. I feel like work, life and everything in between has dialed it up to 11 lately and I am in a serious need for a break. As a result, I have decided to extend my non-CoR coverage this year so I can properly get some rest during my trip next week.

Side-note: I loved Hiroshima when I last visited. It was a city with a lot of heart. I am so envious of the people who get to go to the competition live this year.

Gold: Shoma Uno
Silver: Sergei Voronov
Bronze: Dmitri Aliev (a tossup between the two Russians for silver and bronze – could go either way)

Potential spoiler: Vincent Zhou, if he can skate clean

This is going to be the most exciting discipline to watch. Will Kihira manage to do her 3As clean!?

Gold: Satoko Miyahara
Silver: Elizaveta Tuktamysheva
Bronze: Rika Kihira (could potentially win it all, or at the very least confidently overtake Tuktamysheva)

Gold: Natalia Zabiiako & Alexander Enbert
Silver: Kirsten Moore-Towers & Michael Marinaro
Bronze: Cheng Peng & Yang Jin (silver and bronze easily interchangeable)

Ice Dance

Gold: Tiffani Zagorski & Jonathan Guerreiro
Silver: Kaitlin Hawayek & Jean-Luc Baker
Bronze: Carolane Soucisse & Shane Firus

Who do you think will win that stacked ladies event? I’m kind of hoping for an upset from Kihira to make things exciting but I would also love to see Satoko shine bright like she’s always deserved. I’ve always thought that she was undermarked in previous seasons.
