Weaver/Poje will be Canada’s future ice dance silver medalists…

…if they stay together that is. Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier have decided to split to pursue other careers. (See this article for more details.) Maybe Paul will meet up with the energetic coach of the University of Toronto’s figure skating team and turn the club’s skaters to a powerhouse. That would be very cool. Not to mention that I wouldn’t be surprised if Paul does meet up with the aforementioned coach if he decides to participate in more extracurricular activities within his college at U of T.

In any case, I hope that Kaitlyn and Andrew will do their best to challenge and improve themselves each season even though they don’t quite have archrivals any more. (I don’t see them as a challenge to Tessa and Scott… ever.) As much as I didn’t like seeing Crone and Poirier skate, I admit that Kaitlyn and Andrew probably would not have pushed themselves as hard as they did if it weren’t for Vanessa and Paul. The fight for the second spot to the Olympics was epic and did liven up the competition at Canadian Nationals that year. Continued rapid improvement from Kaitlyn and Andrew would place themselves securely as successors to Tessa and Scott should they choose to keep skating after the Olympic champions retire. And if that happens, they may get a silver or a bronze somewhere down the road… sort of like what might have happened the Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat if they hadn’t randomly fallen in their FD this year at Worlds.

Anyways, to end, I’ll post this: the only program I found palatable from Crone and Poirier, mostly because I love the choice of music. (Rare considering their dubious musical selections…)

Thoughts on this new breakup? I’d love to hear them!
